The Colliters Brook outfall at Bristol consists of four flap valves situated at just above low tide level on the River Avon near Cumberland Basin. Two of the flap valves are the responsibility of Wessex Water and two are Environment Agency assets. The existing access to these valves consisted of dilapidated ladders and had been red carded. It is desirable however to have safe and easy to use access for routine maintenance purposes.
Early in 2013 Kingcombe Stonbury were asked to fabricate and install a bespoke access gantry to a design by Jacobs UK Ltd.
The structure was fabricated in our workshops using our extensive range of modern fabrication equipment and galvanised to the required specification.
The 3 tonne access gantry was delivered to site in kit form and after initial preparation of the landing site was installed by Kingcombe Stonbury staff using a crane. The installation had to be meticulously planned due to the tidal nature of the site and to comply with the terms of the intertidal license. All associated fencing, ladders and gates were also fabricated and installed by Kingcombe Stonbury.
